The Arkle loop: OS map 9 Cape wrath.
Start at Achfary on the A838. Grid ref: NC 297402

From the bridge where you have parked you take the tarmac road which leads to Lone bothy NC309422. Once you have completed the short distance to the bothy take the right hand track which you can see climbing steeply over the hill in front of you. This tricky technical climb leads you onto rolling landrover track heading for the Bealach na Feithe at 6 miles in NC371418. Once over the Bealach you drop down on pretty rough tracks through the forest and back out into the open over the bridge over the Abhainn strath coir an easaidh NC420415.

From the bridge continue again on tarmac road to the T junction NC433414 where you take a left heading towards Gobernusich lodge but within 0.2 miles you turn left back onto landrover track NC434416. You should now be heading into Glen Golly where there is a good spot being very nearly half way for a lunch stop opposite the waterfalls NC417440. From this point you can follow the track disappearing over creag dubh in the distance NC391457. Ove rthe other side you begin to descend and given a choice bear left each time NC388459, the track is grassy and boggy on this section but it affords you great views down Strath Dionard. The final section of the descent is pretty much unrideable so make as best as you can for a crossing point over the stream as close as possible to hte visible track leading up the opposite hillside NC357463. For the next mile you will wrestle with the hill and your bike as you gradually winch up the hill towards the highest point of the ride at Bealach Horn which offers up spectacular views of Arkle and beyond NC339460. Now the fun can begin on the 3 mile descent back to Lone bothy. This descent offers up many a varied surface, starting off with relatively smooth hill track switching to rocky twisty landrover track and finishing off with steep pine needle singletrack through the trees NC313426.

Once back at the bothy it is a rolling return on the tarmac that you started your day with. Finishing distance should be in the region of 24 miles.
